Guy Gilchrist is the cartoonist behind the famed comic strip Nancy. The title character and her family and friends have become worldwide icons since their first appearance in Ernie Bushmiller’s Fritzi Ritz comic strip in 1933. For Guy Gilchrist, creativity is an ever-expanding circle. A cartoonist, poet, author, musician, storyteller, Guy is known first and foremost for his work as writer and artist for the classic newspaper cartoon Nancy, with its millions of followers in nearly 400 newspapers in 80 countries around the world.His other strips have included Jim Henson’s Muppets, which helped launch his career at age 24, as well as Your Angels Speak, Screams, Night Lights & Pillow Fights, and most recently, Today’s Dogg. He is the author of 54 children's books, and was part of the creative team behind The Muppet Babies, Fraggles and Little Muppet Monsters. Along the way, Guy worked on Tom & Jerry, Bugs Bunny and Looney Toons, Tiny Toons and The Pink Panther, drew envelope artwork for the launch of the U.S. Postal Services iconic 1986 “Love” stamp, and designed logos for several professional sports teams. Guy was born and raised in Connecticut, and now lives in Nashville, Tennessee. He has appeared on The Grand Ole Opry, The Midnite Jamboree, TNN, CMT and in many of the city's finest clubs and night spots. He has written songs and shared stages with Charlie Daniels, Confederate Railroad, Little Texas, The Marshall Tucker Band, Little Jimmy Dickens and Tommy Cash, among many others, and released songs including the well-received holiday singles “Christmas Light” and “Merry Christmas, Sluggo,” which raised money to support Boys Town. Guy is currently writing both a screenplay and a musical.Among his many awards, Guy received the prestigious National Cartoonists Society Reuben Category Award as Best Book/Magazine Illustrator twice, and has won three Children’s Choice Best Book Awards from the National and International Reading Councils and The United Nations. His work has been displayed in the Smithsonian Institute, and his charitable activities have earned him an invitation as a guest of honor at the White House.
Meet the Cast of Nancy
- Nancy Nancy is a tomboy, an angel, and a brat. She is optimistic, moody, loud and loyal. She loves her Aunt Fritzi, her friends, her rescued dog and cat, her goldfish and her teddy bear. Nancy also loves ice cream, the fair, snow days, music and days with no homework! She is in 3rd grade at Three Rocks Elementary School.
- Aunt Fritzi Aunt Fritzi is Nancy's adopted caretaker and a full-time heartthrob. An entertainment writer for magazines, newspapers, websites and blogs, Fritzi is a dedicated single parent who makes her 8-year-old adopted niece the center of her life. When she does get a break in her busy schedule, Fritzi enjoys spending time with her boyfriend, Phil Fumble.
- Sluggo Sluggo Smith. is an orphan as is Nancy. Perhaps that is their natural bond. He is lazy, but dreams that impossible dreams are possible. But not if he has to actually work "too hard" to achieve them! He loves to nap, play the guitar, nap, fish, nap, sing, nap, meditate, well, nap.
