Shoecabbage by Teresa Burritt and David Stanford

A shoecabbage is a word in another language with the same sound as a word in English but with a different meaning. For example, in English a shoe is a covering for a foot, while in French shoe [spelled: chou] means cabbage. Teresa Burritt and David Stanford's single panel cartoon is both informative and entertaining!

Teresa Burritt coined the term 'shoecabbage' and started collecting them for fun, without any real long-term goal in mind. She gradually built a worldwide network of linguists and anthropologists who she can call on to help verify new finds. Her lifelong interest in cartooning eventually sparked the idea of creating this feature, which she hopes will help raise language awareness by bringing the subject of languages (especially lesser-known and endangered languages) onto the comics page.
David Stanford is a Californian-American now living in rural New York. In 1973 he began Animal Mitchell Publications to self-publish his cartoons. His numerous booklets include Brain Jam Journal, Bebop on the Rebop, William Blake and the Lamb, Calm and Sense, Cow Hips, A History of the Unicorn Church, Rational Comics, The Man With a Hat, Notes From Otherground, and Riding the Big Horse.

What could be better than combining education with the funnypages? NOTHING. Trust me. Shoecabbage takes an interesting idea and brings it to life in a delightful manner.
