Since its 1998 debut, Jen Sorensen's Slowpoke has offered readers a weekly slice of keen cultural commentary with an absurdist twist. Ruthlessly probing both kitsch and controversies of the fledgling millennium, Slowpoke features regular characters Mr. Perkins, Little Gus, and Drooly Julie, who skillfully embody the archetypal essence of the pompous politician, the bombastic bohemian, and the goofy female pervert.

Meet the Cast of Slowpoke

Perkins
Mr. Perkins Mr. Perkins is an uptight gentleman who favors a suit and tie, grammatically correct sentences, and a spot of afternoon tea. He frequently plays the role of pompous executive, or a certain bumbling U.S. president (a considerable feat of character-acting, given Perkins' proclivity for eloquent speech).
Gus
Little Gus Little Gus is a contemplative young man who wanders about with a vague sense of unease. Batted about by the winds of fortune, or misfortune, as the case may be, Little Gus quietly endures the inanities of the modern world.
Julie
Drooly Julie Drooly Julie is all the sexually frustrated women of the world rolled into one compact pervert. She enjoys nothing more than scoping out man-muffins in the park on a sunny afternoon. In particular, she is drawn to leather-clad headbangers with a few days of stubble.

Slowpoke is a comic that succeeds in skewering society in all its twisted aspects with humor, aplomb, and really great art. From the vapid wastelands of entertainment to the slimy halls of power, it's a strange, scathing trip, courtesy of the talented Jen Sorensen.
