WuMo celebrates life's absurdity and bittersweet ironies, holding up a funhouse mirror to our modern world and those who live in it. Thanks to its delightful artwork and irreverent humor, this hilarious comic by writer Mikael Wulff and illustrator Anders Morgenthaler has grown from an underground sensation to one of the biggest and most popular strips in Europe. WuMo's inventiveness is reminiscent of their countryman Hans Christian Andersen — if Andersen's fairy tales had been populated by sadistic pandas, disgruntled office workers, crazy beavers, Albert Einstein, Snoop Dogg and Darth Vader.

Wulff & Morgenthaler

Over the past 8 years, comedic writer Mikael Wulff and illustrator Anders Morgenthaler have grown their comic strip from an underground sensation to one of the biggest and most popular strips in Europe. Named WuMo, after the pair’s last names, the hilariously irreverent panel appears in the largest papers in northern Europe, including Germany’s Die Welt, Denmark’s Politiken and Norway’s Dagbladet.

Wulff and Morgenthaler have developed and run Scandinavia´s biggest comedy website, which attracts 200,000 daily users, a significant number for a region with a total population of 15 million. The pair have also created the animated sitcom, The Pandas, which is in the vein of South Park and The Family Guy. The first three seasons have been wildly popular in Denmark, and the pair is in negotiations to bring the show to North America. Recently, the prolific comedy duo won an award for the “Best Illustrated Cookbook” at the 2013 Gourmand Awards in Paris.

Wulff is a stand-up comedian and has done several live one-man shows, released DVDs with his stand-up and done his own TV and radio shows.

In addition to his illustration work, Morgenthaler is also a movie director whose films range from children’s movies about talking fruit to avant-garde art-house fare. His debut feature, “Princess,” opened the Directors’ Fortnight program at Cannes Film Festival in 2006 and won awards at several other festivals. He is currently directing and producing an English-language film starring Kim Basinger.

Todd Brown, founder and editor of the influential film site Twitch, has been among those calling for Wulff and Morgenthaler to expand their English-language output. Brown writes:
“Along with his partner Mikael Wulff, Morgenthaler created a hugely popular series of webcomics that spun off into an animated television series, merchandise and a global audience in multiple languages. And the reason was very simple: their stuff is very, very funny.”
