Universal Uclick/GoComics Comic Strip Creators Thompson, Trudeau, Pastis and Lee are Nominated for the 2012 Harvey Awards
Kansas City, Mo. (July 18, 2012) – Earlier this month, the 2012 Harvey Awards nominees were announced, recognizing outstanding work in comics and sequential art. Unique to this award, the winners are voted on by their peers --current creators and industry professionals. Three of the five nominees for the “Best Syndicated Strip or Panel Award” are Universal Uclick and GoComics syndicated creators: Richard Thompson of Cul De Sac, Garry Trudeau of Doonesbury and Stephan Pastis of Pearls Before Swine. Additionally, GoComics creator Lela Lee is nominated for her work on Fairy Tales For Angry Little Girls in the “Special Award for Humor in Comics” category.
Richard Thompson's Cul de Sac is a comic strip about a lighthearted four-year old girl, Alice Otterloop, and her suburban life experiences on a cul-de-sac with her friends Beni and Dill, older brother Petey and her classmates at Blisshaven Academy preschool. Thompson’s work and battle with Parkinson’s Disease recently inspired dozens of creators to contribute to the book Team Cul De Sac: Cartoonists Draw the Line at Parkinson’s to raise money for the Michael J. Fox Foundation and to honor him.
Doonesbury is an articulate, abrasive, political, misunderstood, thought-provoking and outrageous chronicle of American history and culture in a parallel universe. Garry Trudeau is an accomplished social and political satirist who has been recognized by his peers for years.
Pearls Before Swine, created by Stephan Pastis, is the comic strip tale of two friends: an arrogant Rat who thinks he knows it all, and a slow-witted Pig who doesn't know any better. Together, this pair offers caustic commentary on humanity's quest for the unattainable.
Angry Little Girls is a cute but snarky weekly comic strip about life as a girl. One girl is really angry, and the others are disenchanted, crazy, fresh and gloomy. It’s not easy being a girl with mean parents, a dumb boyfriend and annoying friends.
Cul De Sac, Doonesbury, Pearls Before Swine and Angry Little Girls can all be viewed daily at GoComics.com.
Thompson, Trudeau and Pastis have been recognized by the Harvey Awards and their peers in past years. Trudeau was the 2008 and 2011 recipient of the Harvey Award in the “Best Syndicated Strip or Panel” category and has also been nominated numerous times in previous years. Furthermore, since the award category's inception in 1990, a Universal Uclick creator has been nominated every year.
This year, the Harvey Awards will be presented September 8, 2012 in Baltimore, Md., in conjunction with the Baltimore Comic-Con. For more information on the Harvey Awards, visit www.harveyawards.org.
